Spoon river - Un blasfemo

They first charged me with disorderly conduct,
There being no statute on blasphemy.
Later they locked me up as insane
Where I was beaten to death by a Catholic guard.
My offense was this:
I said God lied to Adam, and destined him
To lead the life of a fool,
Ignorant that there is evil in the world as well as good.
And when Adam outwitted God by eating the apple
And saw through the lie,
God drove him out of Eden to keep him from taking
The fruit of immortal life.
For Christ's sake, you sensible people,
Here's what God Himself said about it in the book of Genesis:
"And the Lord God said, behold the man
is become one of us" (a little envy, you see),
"To know good and evil" (the all-is-good lie exposed)
"And now lest he put forth his hand and take
Also of the three of life and eat, and live forever:
Therefore the Lord God sent Him forth from the garden of Eden
(The reason I believe God crucified His Own Son
To get out of the wretched tangle is, because it sounds just like Him).

Prima mi incastrarono con l'accusa di condotta immorale,
non c'era alcuno statuto sulla blasfemia.
Poi mi rinchiusero come pazzo
dove fui picchiato a morte da una guardia cattolica.
La mia offesa era questa:
dicevo che Dio mentì ad Adamo, e lo destinò
a trascorrere una vita da stolto,
ignorando che al mondo c'è il male così come c'è il bene
E quando Adamo mise nel sacco Dio mangiando la mela
E vide oltre la menzogna,
Dio lo cacciò fuori dall'Eden per impedirgli di cogliere
il frutto della vita immortale.
Cristo Santo, voi gente di buon senso,
ecco quello che Dio stesso dice nel libro della Genesi:
"E il Signore Iddio disse: ecco che l'uomo
è diventato uno di noi" (un po' d'invidia, vedete)
"a conoscere il bene e il male" (la bugia che-tutto-è-bene smascherata)
"E allora, perchè non allungasse oltre la mano a prendere
e mangiare anche dall'albero della vita, e non vivesse in eterno:
per questo il Signore Iddio lo scacciò dal giardino dell'Eden".
(La ragione per cui, credo, Dio crugifisse Suo Figlio
per tirarsi fuori da quel brutto pasticcio, è che è proprio da par Suo)
